Situated on the pathway overlooking the beachfront, restaurant Cala Moreia is perfectly located for an afternoon of sangria and sunshine. The outdoor tables are along the main strip in S’Illot, Majorca, with lots of other private shops and restaurants nearby. Upon arrival, the restaurant quickly arranged several tables together to allow us to sit as a group and my party were sat along one side out the way of other diners, which allowed us to remain eating and drinking for as long as we pleased.

The menu offered a variety of foods suited to the Western tourist - think: pizzas, burgers, chicken and chips; however there were also some ‘exotic’ foods available including traditional Spanish paella. This was all reasonably priced and a range of drinks were also offered, including soft and alcoholic.

Opting for two pizzas between us, one contained Parma ham and the other topped with (regular) ham and an egg. The pizzas were of a suitable size, and were not overly filling, however unfortunately the toppings were not very generous. The Parma ham pizza contained only four quadrants of ham, each of which were rolled and placed towards the middle of the pizza. Surrounding this, the pizza was pale and slightly undercooked, however the remaining pizza was cooked to be crispy and the cheese stretching between each slice. The second pizza was more generously topped, however this is arguably due to the larger surface area of the egg, and the toppings were sparse nearer the crust. Additionally, the pizza was quite pale and the egg very runny, which did make me feel slightly queasy for the remainder of the afternoon – whilst a runny egg yolk did not bother me; perhaps the server should ask customers if they would prefer it to be cooked thoroughly.

Our server was very attentive to our needs, which is a plus especially with a large party, and all our food was served at relatively the same time. They were also happy to allow us to sit and spend our afternoon at the restaurant, not hurrying us to leave their restaurant after having eaten.

Therefore, our experience at Cala Moreia was enjoyable and worth returning to for their appealing menu and pleasant servers.
