The Art of the Buffalo Burger...

The restaurant is located in a good area, directly down the main street through Lille leading to the main squares, easy to find on foot – and by chance too! From the outside, the restaurant is no more spectacular than any others along the street, if anything it blends in a little too much. However, inside it can only be described as modern and hipster… with hanging decorative lightbulbs, graffitied walls and brightly coloured pipes, it is clear who the targeted demographic is!
The menu, whilst obviously targeted around a wide selection of burgers, also offers a range of other main courses including salads and hot dogs. Also offering tapas for a light bite, loaded fries for a bigger meal, and kids courses, there’s something for almost everyone… unfortunately vegetarian’s and vegans are not as well catered for. Nevertheless, there are also a large variety of set menus and soft + alcoholic drinks all reasonably priced, with a happy hour between 6-8pm.
Opting for the BBQ burger, a classic, it was clear they knew what they were doing! The burger itself was meaty and juicy; the bun: soft and solid, the burger juice was enough to moisten but not to cause it to fall apart; the additional fillings of lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp, adding texture to the burger. Most importantly, the burger held itself well – it did not slip and fall out of the bun, it was succulent not sloppy and appetising in appearance and taste.
The side, crispy fries, were a delicious accompaniment to the burger and the portion size was appropriate. The only fault to these is perhaps their presentation. Further to the hipster interior, I would have expected these to be served in a neat cup or similar, as opposed to strewn across the plate.
Finally, the make or break of a restaurant: the service. Our server was polite and very helpful in assisting us with translations – our French is not as up to speed as our taste in burgers – and efficiently dealt with the ‘picky eater’ in our party, with no mistakes made.
Overall, Buffalo Burger was a pleasant discovery in the small town, so much so that we returned again 2 days later and of course experienced the delightful food once more before our departure.
